Kilims According to Sizes
The composition of Pirot kilim is dependent upon its use and size. The surface of the kilim is measured traditionally by an ell (called “aršin”, 0,68 x 0,68 m) and by smaller measures as a
half ell (called “½ aršina”, 0,34 x 0,34 m), a quarter (called “čerek”, 0,17 x 0,17 m) or a half quarter ( called “½ čereka”, 0,085 x 0,085 m). These measure are transferred
into square meters so that 1 ell = 0,5 m².
According to the size they differ as follows:
The Dolly small, 50 x 50 cm; used for covering chairs
The Dolly bigger, 60 x 60 cm; used for covering chairs
The Rug smaller, 60 x 125 cm, has as wide usage
The Rug bigger, 70 x 125 cm, has a wide usage
The Jan small, the sprega, 90 x 200 cm; has a wide usage, for floor
The Jan mid (1), the spread, 90 x 300 cm; for floor
The Jan mid (2), the spread, 102 x 272 cm; for floor
The Jan mid (3), the spread, 102 x 306 cm; for floor
The Jan big, 136 x 272; floor
The Jan – the biggest one, 150 x 250 cm; for sofas
The Sidžade, 100 x 175 cm; has a wide usage
